Ravens Solidify Perimeter Defense with Stanford CB? NFL Draft
With the 2023 NFL Draft less than one month away, the Baltimore Ravens plans to upgrade their roster at key positions of need are beginning to take shape.
Possessing only five selections in the upcoming draft, the Ravens must maximize their return on investment with impactful picks.
Though all eyes remain quarterback Lamar Jackson and his future in Charm City, the Ravens will undoubtedly look to invest notable draft capital in several areas within the team — including cornerback.
Baltimore is well-represented on the right side of the perimeter by Marlon Humphrey. However, Marcus Peters and Kyle Fuller remain on the free agent market. Should the Ravens look for pro-level help at outside corner, Stanford’s Kyu Blu Kelly may fit both their needs and their price range quite nicely.
If the Ravens are looking to strengthen their man cover schemes, Blu Kelly is someone they should be watching. As a former track star, he possesses both the speed and athleticism to remain in step with receivers in coverage. While most proficient in man coverage, Blu Kelly has the ability to play in some Cover 3, as well. He is aggressive at the catch point, but could use some improvement in his engagement when playing off-coverage.
Still, he is likely to be among the best potential fits for the Ravens at a clear position of need.
Currently projected as a late day-two or early day-three selection, the Ravens would likley need to eye Blu Kelly with their sole third-rounder (86 overall). If available, the Ravens may take a significant step in solidifying their defensive backfield for the foreseeable future.
