Ravens 'Definitely Have a Plan' For Uncertain RB Situation

The Baltimore Ravens have a rather thin-looking running back room as multiple players are set to hit the free agent market, but general manager Eric DeCosta says there is a plan in place.

The Baltimore Ravens have a host of roster decisions to make this offseason with the running back position set to be the most intriguing.

Gus Edwards, who was the team's second-leading rusher and led the team in touchdowns, the injury-prone J.K. Dobbins, and Melvin Gordon III are all set to hit the free agent market.

If all leave, that would mean only Keaton Mitchell and Justice Hill would be the running backs on the roster, and that could pave the way for a big fish to arrive in free agency like Derrick Henry or Saquon Barkley.

But with so much uncertainty at the running back position, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta says the team does have a plan.

"We've looked at the draft class," DeCosta said at the scouting combine in Indianapolis. "It's probably not as deep as some other positions that we'll see in this year's draft class. There's some talented [free agent] players that we will look at as well, but I think it's probably safe to say that we'll have more than two running backs on our roster at some point. We will definitely have a plan for that position."

Edwards has a market value of just $3.6 million APY so getting him to return is more than doable for the Ravens and considering his 2023 efforts, it would make sense.

But with Mitchell on his rookie deal and Hill heading into the final year of his contract, the Ravens could easily move on from Edwards, Gordon, and Dobbins and go after a big fish in free agency.

The NFL is a brutal business and if the chance to sign Henry, Barkley, or even Josh Jacobs comes around, Baltimore would be foolish to not at least make a phone call.

With a lot of uncertainty surrounding the running back room, Ravens fans will hope there is a swift resolution as a big part of their identity under Todd Monken is to establish the run.

But fear not, the Ravens have a plan and we are interested to see how that plan plays out over the coming weeks.
