REPORT: Texans 'In the Mix' for Ravens LB Patrick Queen
The Baltimore Ravens have a number of pending free agents this offseason, and one of the biggest names is linebacker Patrick Queen. Several AFC teams have been rumored as potential new homes for the LSU product who will be entering his fifth season.
Those rumors have included the Houston Texans.
As the so-called "legal tampering period" kicked off on Monday, running backs were flying off the market as teams reached agreements to sign players after free agency begins on Wednesday.
ESPN Texans reporter DJ Bien-Aime posted on X, Texans are in the mix for former #Ravens LB Patrick Queen but I'm hearing folks around Queen aren't sure #Texans can come up with the money to nail him. We'll see what happens."
ESPN claimed last week there was "some interest between the two parties."
ESPN mentioned that the Texans want to keep linebacker Blake Cashman, the team's leading tackler from last season. But, "his cost could be more than what the Texans are willing to spend--especially if no deal is in place before the negotiating period opens."
The Ravens declined Queen's fifth-year option before last season, and the former Tiger had a career year.
A link does exist between Queen and the Texans, as he played alongside Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. at LSU where the two won a national championship in 2019.
According to Spotrac.com, Queen's projected market value is a five-year, $92.6 million contract. Queen's rookie deal was a four-year, $12.1 million contract.
Queen tallied a career-high 133 tackles with nine for loss, six quarterback hits, 3.5 sacks, one interception, six passes broken up and one forced fumble in his 17 starts in Baltimore last season. His loss would be a big one for the Ravens.
