Ravens Jadeveon Clowney Eyes ‘Year Like The Eagles Had’ For Defensive Front

In his first year with the Baltimore Ravens, Jadeveon Clowney sees a lot of potential in the defense, and especially in linebackers Odafe Oweh and David Ojabo.

The Baltimore Ravens have a big matchup in Week 1 against the Houston Texans.

While that statement might come across a little weird at first blush, the real hype for this game alone is around outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney who started his career as the No. 1 overall pick by the Texans in 2014.

To hear Clowney tell it, however, he’s more interested in what the defensive front can do as a whole for Baltimore than he is about one game against Houston.

“I just feel like (this is) probably one of the best d-lines I’ve played with,” Clowney said according to Carita Parks of Bowie TV. “Hopefully we can just all have that year like the Eagles had last year…that’s the goal (and) I think we got a shot at it. We just have to come to work, keeping putting days together, and go out in the game and execute.”

Houston Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (90) celebrates after recovering fumble against the Philadelphia Eagles during the second quarter at Lincoln Financial Field.

Clowney has played for three different teams since leaving the Texans after the 2018 NFL season.

Since then he’s started 43 games, compiled 14 more sacks in his career, and played with a wide array of defensive teammates.

None, however, may have had more potential than current teammates and fellow Ravens outside linebackers Odafe Oweh and David Ojabo.

“I think they’re great players, Clowney said of the duo. “They come to work every day. They want to get better, they want to be great players. You can tell by how they practice and how they go about their business.”

Oweh has gotten a taste of what Clowney did as another first round draft pick, although the pressures of being the top selection compared to the 31st likely differ a bit.

Ojabo was a Day 2 pick with Day 1 upside to many, and has proven - at least in Clowney’s eyes - that there is still plenty of untapped potential there.

If all three of these men can turn in the kinds of years Clowney has goals of them setting in Baltimore then there’s no telling how high the potential of the entire roster could take the franchise this season.

That alone is cause for excitement, and that’s before we see a full unveiling of the Ravens’ new offense and what it might mean for quarterback Lamar Jackson.
