Report: Ravens 'Never Talked' to Lamar Jackson About Hiring Coach Todd Monken

After being told he'd be "involved" in the offensive coordinator hiring process, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson reportedly didn't have any discussions with Todd Monken, the candidate coach John Harbaugh ultimately chose.

After a frustrating finish to the year marred by injury questions and a consistently extended return date, quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens entered the offseason on rocky terms.

Still, coach John Harbaugh and general manager Eric DeCosta were steadfast in their belief that Jackson would be back for the 2023 season, even dubbing it a "200 percent" chance.

Expressing further confidence, Harbaugh added that Jackson would be "involved" in Baltimore's search for a new offensive coordinator ... but according to ESPN, this wasn't the case.

“Lamar Jackson was never consulted or talked to or asked what his opinions would be," ESPN said. "He was informed, ‘This is your new boss at the offensive coordinator spot, who will be calling plays for you.'”

This report comes a few weeks after NFL Network shared that Jackson had yet to have direct communication with any of the candidates; the Ravens settled on former University of Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken to replace the fired Greg Roman.

Harbaugh previously defended this idea by saying that Jackson's philosophical ideas regarding the offense were taken into account during the search, indicating that Baltimore hired the candidate who best fit that description.

But nonetheless, it doesn't seem like Jackson was overly "involved," after all - and considering the tension that exists between both parties, this likely won't help ease things over.
