Baltimore Ravens Re-Sign Odell Beckham Jr.? Decision Explained

Despite the need to find another quality starting wide receiver, the Baltimore Ravens difficult cap situation must leave them looking for alternative solutions.

The Baltimore Ravens desperately need another wide receiver to pair with first-round phenom Zay Flowers.

Sure, the Ravens were able to help quarterback Lamar Jackson win his second MVP award this past season despite a lack of consistent help on the outside, but they cannot rely on Jackson to play up to that consistent level without providing some level of help on the outside.

One player that produced admirable results in 2023 was Odell Beckham Jr. In his first year back from suffering a torn ACL in Super Bowl LVI, the former New York Giant caught 35 passes for over 500 yards and three touchdowns. A full year removed from returning from an ACL injury means that improved numbers could be on the way.

Just not with the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaking to reporters at the annual league meetings in Orlando, Florida, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh stated that Beckham would not be returning to the organization in 2024 - and the reason being a purely financial decision.

"I think we'll be in great shape at wide receiver," Harbaugh said. "Losing Odell, he's great. I love him. But give the young guys a chance."

Baltimore has just $14 million in salary cap space - not enough to sign their incoming draft class and pay a hefty amount for a quality receiver on the open market. While owning three draft picks in the top 100, and with a deep receiver class to start, the Ravens are looking to address those receiver needs with cheaper and younger talent.
