The San Francisco 49ers came into their game against the Baltimore Ravens with the second-best scoring defense in the NFL this season, giving up an average of just 16.7 points per game to opponents.

That number will be going up after the conclusion of the Christmas Day game, as the Ravens are piling on to their lead in the third quarter.

After Brock Purdy threw his fourth interception of the game to linebacker Patrick Queen, Baltimore took advantage of the turnover quickly. On the very next play, Lamar Jackson found Zay Flowers wide open in the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown to make the game 30-12.

The Ravens started the half with a strong defensive stand, forcing a three-and-out on San Francisco's opening drive and protecting a 16-12 lead. On the ensuing possession, Baltimore struck quickly on a 3-play, 44-yard drive that ended with a 6-yard touchdown connection between Jackson and wide receiver Nelson Agholor.

Lamar Jackson has set a new career-high for passing yards in a single season this year.

Lamar Jackson has set a new career-high for passing yards in a single season this year.

Against one of the best defenses in the NFL, Jackson is making his case to be the new MVP favorite. Midway through the third quarter, he has completed 19 of his 30 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 36 yards on just three carries.

He has also set a new career-high in passing yards in this game, surpassing his previous high of 3,127 yards that he recorded in his MVP season.

The winner of the game will have sole possession of the best record in football with just two weeks left in the regular season.
