Ravens Season a 'Resounding Success' Says GM Eric DeCosta
The Baltimore Ravens will look back on the 2023 season with one thought...what if.
After a super regular season that saw the Ravens post a 13-4 record, win the AFC North, clinched the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage for the playoffs, everything felt like it was clicking for Baltimore.
After a tricky first half against the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round, the Ravens found their groove and a second-half curb stomping followed. Next was the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.
Uncharacteristic penalties were a blight on the Ravens as they succumbed to Mahomes' Chiefs and the once-promising season ended in sour fashion.
So, after a superb regular season and a poor playoff exit, how would Ravens' general manager Eric DeCosta look back at the season?
“As hard as it is, when I really step back and look at this season, I would say it was a resounding success in many different ways,” DeCosta said at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “The locker room was crazy good, the personalities, the love that I think was felt every single day, the attitude that these guys brought. So that gives me great hope that our future is very bright."
The Ravens have all the tools to make it back to the AFC Championship game and even further, but there will be plenty of changes to the roster and already has been on the coaching staff.
Key defensive pieces Justin Madubuike and Patrick Queen are the two big names entering free agency, while on offense, multiple running backs and receivers have their futures up in the air.
So there will be work to be done to get the team back to the heights it hit last season, and DeCosta is confident that with this current group, they can achieve something special.
But first, a host of decisions have to be made roster-wise that will have a large bearing on how the 2024 season pans out.
However, if DeCosta is confident that the current playing group has a bright future, then we are too.
