'Execution Trumps Everything!' Monken On Ravens New Offense vs. Texans

The Baltimore Ravens offense has been the talk of preseason, but now, as the regular season approaches, coordinator Todd Monken is looking forward to seeing it against the Houston Texans.

One of the storylines this offseason has been the offensive transformation for the Baltimore Ravens. With Greg Roman out, Todd Monken and his vertical-style offense come to take over.

Much has been made of what the offense could look like, as Lamar Jackson has a host of weapons that includes Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers to complement an already potent offense.

But as the Ravens gear up for their Week 1 matchup vs. the Houston Texans, Monken feels the offense is right where it needs to be.

“I think we’re in a good spot,” Monken said. “I think that’s been overplayed in a lot of ways, what this offense will look like or what we’ve done in the past. I get it. There’s excitement, I mean, I’m excited to get started.”

The Ravens have an embarrassment of riches on offense, and going through the list, it is easy to see why many have touted Baltimore as having the most explosive offense in the NFL.

Already with Mark Andrews, Devin Duvernay, and Rashod Bateman, along with running backs J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and Justice Hill, Baltimore added Beckham Jr., Flowers, and Nelson Agholor.

While there are playmakers everywhere and expectations are high for what Baltimore could do, for Monken, everything will come down to one thing ... execution.

“It still comes down to execution, and it trumps everything, it doesn’t matter what we’re running, playing at a high level, got guys excited to play and being able to stack plays. Again, what it’ll look like, I’m excited to see it. I’m excited to see where we’re at in a lot of ways. I’ve seen it in practice. Now I’m excited to see it in the games.”

With so much hype surrounding Jackson and what he and the offense could look like going forward, Ravens fans are jumping out of their skin waiting for Sunday's clash against the Texans.

It will be the first roll-out of a new era in Baltimore, with Jackson firmly having two hands on the wheel of a new offense that is loaded with talent.

Will it translate into good production on the field? Ravens fans sure hope so.
