Ravens WR Zay Flowers 'Upside is Stefon Diggs' Says NFL Exec

The Ravens drafted Zay Flowers in the first round of the NFL Draft, with an anonymous NFL executive stating his upside is that of Stefon Diggs from the Bills.

The Baltimore Ravens added receiver Zay Flowers to their ranks in the first round of the NFL Draft. With quarterback Lamar Jackson signing his long-term contract and Odell Beckham Jr. signing on, Baltimore has quite the receiving room heading into next season.

Sticking with Flowers, the Boston College standout had a superb 2022 season that saw him reel in 78 receptions for 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns. With the rookie now linking up with Lamar, the Ravens could have a star on their hands...and an anonymous NFL executive thinks so too.

Per The Athletic's Mike Sando, one NFL executive thinks that Flowers' potential is becoming the next Stefon Diggs from a route running perspective which is high praise indeed.

"OBJ [Odell Beckham Jr.] will be the big wild card," an executive told Sando. "Is he going to still have big-game potential? Flowers' upside is Stefon Diggs. He has that from a route-running capacity. I like their core. It has gotten better. That said, none of those guys are true No. 1s, which the Ravens can actually get away with. It is scheme, play-action, and their No. 1 guy is Mark Andrews, basically."

That is significant praise for Flowers, who no doubt has high hopes heading into next season. With the Ravens being predominantly a run-first football team with the likes of J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, with Baltimore's new receiving corps, could that change?

Lamar hinted that he wanted to throw for 6,000 yards next season and believes he has the weapons to make it happen, but in reality, that is unlikely. The Ravens, under Todd Monken, will be a balanced offense that can tear teams apart either through the air or on the ground.

With Beckham Jr. and Mark Andrews to learn off, Flowers could be set for a big rookie season, and as far as the Diggs comparison with his route running, if Flowers gets anywhere near the Bills star in that regard, he will have a very productive NFL career.
