Lamar Jackson Contract Offer From Ravens: Did QB Turn Down 'Wilson & Kyler' Money?

Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are still in discussions over a contract extension, but ESPN's Adam Schefter has given details on the deal Lamar refused last season.

The Baltimore Ravens have been hit from pillar to post over the Lamar Jackson contract negotiations. Many feel the organization has done wrong by the franchise quarterback in not giving him the type of contract he wants.

Well ...

ESPN's Adam Schefter spoke on his podcast and gave the finer details of the monster contract that Jackson refused last season.

"Chris Mortensen and I reported on this last September when Lamar Jackson was offered a deal that he turned down that included, at the time it was offered, $133 million due at signing [guaranteed]," Schefter said.

"The contract also had injury guarantees that brought the guarantees to $175 million. Then it had a springing guarantee that could have brought the value of the contract, the guaranteed money in the contract to $200 million in guarantees.

“Those were way more than what Kyler Murray got from Arizona and way more than what Russell Wilson got from the Denver Broncos and yes, those were the actual numbers."

With the NFL's legal tampering period open and free agency just around the corner, the situation from the Ravens and Jackson is becoming dire. With reports that the Ravens are "trying everything" to come to an agreement with Lamar, it feels like time is running out.

The thought is that Jackson wants a fully guaranteed contract in the realm of Deshaun Watson ($230 million guaranteed), but with the Ravens' offer last season, Lamar would have gotten the bag, just not the full one he wanted.

"Bottom line, Lamar Jackson passed up a lot of guaranteed money in the hopes he would get a fully guaranteed contract," Schefter said.

It appears that Baltimore was doing - well, something - to get Jackson a new contract, but the sticking point is getting a fully guaranteed deal, which in the end, could result in a sour end to a once blossoming relationship.
