Saints Chop More Cap, Restructure Jameis Winston

The Saints continue to get in some work ahead of the offseason with another contract restructure.

The Saints have not wasted any time making dents in their salary cap overage going into next season, having already restructured Marshon Lattimore's contract recently. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, you can add another in there with quarterback Jameis Winston.

Today is Winston's 30th birthday, and he has reportedly agreed to a restructure to help with the team's salary cap situation. It will add two years to his existing contract, but will not mess with his impending free agency when the new league year rolls around. Per the report, it will void early in the new league year to allow for cap proration.

This does leave the door open for New Orleans to get a new deal done for Winston, as they'll have some time to figure it out. Naturally, this will depend heavily on what he wants to do. Winston could find a more ideal situation that would allow him to be more in line for a starting position, as they'll be plenty of quarterback positions open following this year. Winston has been a tremendous teammate and extremely positive presence in the locker room since arriving in New Orleans in 2020.
