Seahawks' Pete Carroll 'Making a Push' for Chargers Job: Report

Report: Seattle Seahawks' Pete Carroll 'Making a Push' for Los Angeles Chargers Job

Pete Carroll never said he's officially retiring or calling it quits after his 14-year run as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks ended, leaving the door open for the 72-year-old to make a return to coaching at some point.

Could that moment be coming sooner rather than later? That remains to be seen, but reports from Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk are indicating that Carroll has been attempting to put his foot in the door for one of the more attractive head-coaching vacancies.

Amid a push for Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh that's reportedly "in striking distance," the Los Angeles Chargers have interviewed some other big names, and Carroll has reportedly tried to put himself in consideration.

"At some point, Harbaugh needs to make a decision," Florio wrote. "Especially with other big-name coaches connected to the job. Former Titans coach Mike Vrabel has interviewed for the job. Earlier today, we heard that former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is making a behind-the-scenes push for consideration."

For Carroll, the Chargers job is certainly an attractive one if the reported interest is real. He gets to stay true to his West Coast roots while taking over a team that's filled with talent on both sides of the ball despite what this season's 5-12 record might show.

If he doesn't end up taking a new NFL job, the Seahawks said that Carroll will maintain an "advisor" role, but Seahawks general manager John Schneider didn't have any more clarification on what that entails when asked about it by the media.

“No there’s not," Schneider said when asked if there's more clarity on Carroll's role. "I think it’s something that we will just keep researching in the future and discussing and seeing how this goes. I feel like Jody (Allen) and Pete (Carroll) got to a great spot and the organization is very healthy and ready to move forward.”

Time will tell how the dominoes will fall for Carroll, who has certainly earned a year off from coaching if nothing falls into place right away.
