Bobby Wagner Reveals Why He's Coming 'Home' to Seahawks

After one season with the Los Angeles Rams, Bobby Wagner is back in Seattle with the Seahawks.

Turns out you can go home again. Especially if you're Bobby Wagner, and "home" is the Seattle Seahawks.

Wagner left the team's VMAC a year ago, convinced he was gone for good. But after signing a one-year free-agent contract with Seattle over the weekend, he's back.

“It was surreal,’’ Wagner told the Seattle Times of his return. "Because the last time I walked out of the VMAC ... when I cleaned my locker out and got my stuff I wasn’t sure when I was going to walk back into that building (again). And so it was like a surreal moment to be able to come back into that building not just as a retired player but as somebody who still feels like he has a lot to offer and that the team is going to lean on and count on to help us win.’’

Despite leaving for one season to play with the Los Angeles Rams, Wagner maintains he never wanted to leave Seattle. To that end, he claims he took less money to come back to his old team.

“I’ve made a lot of money over my career,’’ Wagner said. “And so I think I’m at the point where I just want to go where I’m happy, and so I was just really pulling for this to work out.’’

In L.A., Wagner started 17 games, playing 99 percent of the Rams' defensive snaps and was named second-team All-Pro. But the Rams went 5-12 and he grew homesick for what he calls his "football home."

“I think being in Seattle for so long, there was kind of a narrative that that was the only system that I can play well in," he said. "So being able to learn a new system and go through those growing pains and show that it doesn’t matter; the system, I can figure it out.’’
