The 2022 season was at least somewhat positive for the Seattle Seahawks, who went 9-8 and reached the playoffs before being knocked out by the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round. Despite losing long-time quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, the Seahawks and new signal-caller Geno Smith managed a second-place finish in the NFC West.

Heading into 2023, the Seahawks had 10 NFL Draft picks to work with to improve their roster and their chances of winning the NFC West. Below, we’ll provide our NFL Draft reactions to the Seattle Seahawks’ draft picks, predict how they will affect the Seahawks’ outlook for the season and explain how to qualify for FanDuel’s bet $5, get $150 new-user promotion.

Reaction & Expert Analysis to the Seahawks’ 2023 NFL Draft Picks

The Seahawks have earned heaps of praise for their handling of their 2023 NFL Draft picks, and for good reason. With the ascension of Geno Smith into a viable starting quarterback, the Seahawks needed help at a few positions; particularly interior offensive line, defensive line and at the skill positions.

While the Seahawks have Kenneth Walker III, D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, they sorely needed a slot receiver, a running back to take the pressure off of Walker, and players on both lines.

That’s exactly what they got. The first overall Seahawks draft pick didn’t fit this mold, though. Instead, they grabbed what many thought was the best player available: Devon Witherspoon, a cornerback from Illinois who projects to step in and start Week 1 aside Tariq Woolen.

Witherspoon was outstanding against solid Big Ten competition at Illinois and earned both first-team AP All-American and Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year honors in 2022. While there were other options at the slot, Witherspoon will be a force that solidifies the Seahawks’ secondary in an increasingly pass-happy league.

Later in the first, the Seahawks drafted a player to fill perhaps their biggest need on offense, a slot receiver in Jaxon Smith-Njigba out of Ohio State. Smith-Njigba exploded on to the scene as a sophomore, catching 95 passes (ninth in the NCAA) for 1,606 yards (third in the NCAA). He projects to be a solid, zone-beating possession receiver for the Seahawks who can step in and make an impact right away.

As the Seattle Seahawks’ draft picks moved into the second round, they shifted their focus. With their first of two second-rounders, Seattle grabbed Derick Hall, an outside linebacker/EDGE rusher from Auburn.

Hall received the second-best NFL Athleticism Grade amongst EDGE players due to his 4.55 40-yard dash (1.57 10-yard split), 33.5” vertical and 10’7” broad jump at the combine. He was a first-team all-SEC selection after recording 12 TFL, seven sacks, 60 tackles and two forced fumbles at Auburn in 2022. While he may not start over Darrell Taylor at his native position of LOLB, he should still make an impact for Seattle in 2023.

For their second pick of the second round, Seattle went with Zach Charbonnet, one of the top running backs in the 2023 draft class. Charbonnet has plenty of experience after handling 149 carries at Michigan his freshman year, taking 11 for touchdowns. He transferred to UCLA for his junior season where he posted back-to-back 1,000+ yard seasons, scoring 13 and 14 TDs respectively.

He is more of a power back than an explosive runner, but he has a nose for the end zone and could conceivably serve as a 1B to Kenneth Walker III, particularly in goal line or short-yardage situations. Despite not possessing elite speed, he has a knack for slipping tackles and has drawn comparisons to A.J. Dillon.

Later Seattle Seahawks draft picks were also excellent, plugging holes in the roster with each selection. Anthony Bradford will likely serve as a depth piece on the offensive line, though he may work his way into the starting role sooner rather than later.

Cameron Young should get time at nose tackle and grow into an important defensive line piece for Seattle. The same goes for Mike Morris, who has a legitimate shot to see a good chunk of playing time at defensive end. The remaining draft picks will likely begin as depth pieces, but each possess upside for more.

Picks, Predictions & Best Bets for the Seahawks’ Upcoming Season After the NFL Draft

After analyzing the Seattle Seahawks’ draft picks, our NFL Draft reaction is that the roster has improved significantly. Adding two important offensive weapons, a pair of solid defensive starters and numerous depth pieces to address roster holes should make Seattle a contender once again.

Oddsmakers seem to agree with our first-impression NFL Draft reactions, as the Seahawks currently hold the second-best odds to win the NFC West (+260 on FanDuel), fifth-best odds to win the NFC (+1400), and 13th-best odds to win the Super Bowl (+4000).

Of these markets, we think the NFC West prop is the best bet. While the Seattle Seahawks’ draft picks are not likely to be enough for the team to contend for a Super Bowl this year, they can certainly beat out the 49ers for the NFC West crown and cash their (+260) betting odds.

Beyond the Seahawks’ team props, there are also a few individual props involving Seattle players (and Seattle Seahawks draft picks) that may be valuable.

The first of these is Geno Smith’s odds to win the MVP Award, currently posted at (+3000). While he’s still a longshot to win the award, there is a world where Smith carries the team – with his newly-acquired Seattle Seahawks draft picks as weapons – to a Super Bowl; if you’re backing the Seahawks’ (+4000) Super Bowl odds, it’s not a bad idea to sprinkle some on Smith’s (+3000) MVP odds.

Finally, our favorite individual prop involving a Seattle Seahawks draft pick is Devon Witherspoon’s odds to win AP Defensive Rookie of the Year, currently at (+1100) on FanDuel.

Witherspoon will step into a vital role as a starting cornerback for the Seahawks, and he has shown the ability to play up to his competition throughout his playing career. If Witherspoon’s college abilities translate to the NFL, he could be a shoo-in for the award.

Fellow Seattle Seahawks’ draft pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba is also a frontrunner to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award (+900), though he faces more of an uphill battle sitting behind D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett on the depth chart.
