Seahawks Devon Witherspoon Contract Absence? Pete Carroll Prediction

While Seattle Seahawks rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon was absent from camp, Pete Carroll isn't worried.

Training camp getting under way for the Seattle Seahawks brings us one step closer to the start of the season. Not only that but it allows fans a close look at their crop of talented rookies - all of them but cornerback Devon Witherspoon.

Witherspoon, of course, did not report to camp as he and the Seahawks have yet to come to an agreement on his contract. While some might be concerned about his absence from the start of camp, Seahawks' coach Pete Carroll is not among them.

“He’s not here today. He knows everything he needs to know,” Carroll said. “I can’t imagine he won’t be here very soon. He knows what is going on right now and we’ll see what happens."

When the two sides do eventually come to terms on a contract that both can be happy with, Seahawks fans will get a chance to see their first-round rookie cornerback in action.

Pairing him with Woolen will give Seattle one of the most promising young corner duos in the NFL. We've seen what Woolen can do, and there is plenty of reason to believe Witherspoon will make an immediate impact himself.

In his final season at Illinois, he recorded 97 tackles while also suffocating receivers in coverage, tallying 14 passes defended and snagging three interceptions.

Even with Witherspoon not reporting for the start of camp, he will eventually make his way to join his teammates - and when he does, the Seahawks will have a lot to look forward to on defense.
