Seahawks' Pete Carroll Snubbed in Top-10 Coach Rankings?

Despite all his accomplishments, Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll did not appear on a recent ranking of the NFL's 10-best coaches.

Since Pete Carroll became the Seattle Seahawks' coach in 2010, very few NFL coaches have had comparable success.

For starters, Carroll is the fourth-longest tenured coach in the league, as he is entering Year 14 in Seattle, all the more impressive considering how easily coaches come and go. In that time, he has brought the Seahawks to unprecedented heights with 10 playoff appearances, two Super Bowl appearances and the franchise's first championship. The Seahawks have a record of 128-81-1 since Carroll took over, the fifth-best record in the league in that span.

By almost every metric, Carroll has been one of the NFL's best coaches over the past decade and change.

But despite that, he still doesn't seem to get the recognition he deserves, so much so that he didn't even crack the top 10 of Pro Football Focus' recent ranking of coaches.

Carroll is not without fault, as no coach is perfect after all. However, to not even include him in the top 10 with all he has accomplished is, to put it lightly, questionable.

The NFL is a "what have you done for me lately" league, and that's reflected in these rankings. All five of this season's Coach of the Year finalists appeared in the top 10, and while they are deserving of such praise, Carroll's résumé is more impressive overall and he has been doing it much longer.

Even still, last season may have been one of Carroll's finest coaching jobs yet. The Seahawks had no expectations after trading away franchise quarterback Russell Wilson, yet Carroll led them to a surprising playoff appearance anyways. The players deserve a ton of credit for stepping up, but the Seahawks likely aren't anywhere near the postseason without Caroll's leadership.

Perhaps as the Seahawks look to take the next step towards contention, Carroll will receive a bit more respect in next year's coach rankings.
