Seattle Seahawks Reveal Injury Plan for CB Devon Witherspoon

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided an injury update on rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon when speaking to the media Wednesday while also giving details on what the plan is moving forward.

Witherspoon, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 draft, has been dealing with what Carroll previously called a "legit" hip injury. The rookie missed Monday night's 20-17 over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon (21) celebrates after the defense made a play against the Arizona Cardinals during the second half at Lumen Field.

“We’re going to take it one day at a time," Carroll said. "We don’t know yet. He’s much better. He’s moving around better just getting around the building, but we don’t know what’s going to happen during the week with him, so we’ll just have to take it one day at a time. Today is a walkthrough day for us, he won’t be out there participating. He’ll be with us, but he won’t be in the movement stuff again, so we’ll just so how close he is tomorrow.”

After Monday night's win, Carroll said he "can’t imagine" that Witherspoon won’t be able to make it back with three games left in the regular season, but clarified that that's his "wishful thinking."

"It's not a damaged hip. It's just a hip pointer," Carroll said after the game. "But it's really deep and really painful. He's been really uncomfortable with it."

This season, Witherspoon has shined and established himself into the Defensive Rookie of the Year conversation. In 12 games, he's posted 65 total tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble, one interception and one touchdown.

The Seahawks (7-7) visit the Titans (5-9) on Sunday for another must-win game.
