The Seattle Seahawks made one of the biggest headline-grabbing moves of the new league year on Wednesday when they traded for Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell, but coach Mike Macdonald's defense still needs some revamping.

Per reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Seahawks are signing former Miami Dolphins linebacker Jerome Baker.

"Seahawks are signing former Dolphins linebacker Jerome Baker to a one-year, $7 million contract. The deal was confirmed by Baker’s agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus," Schefter tweeted.

Baker, 27, was a third-round pick by the Dolphins in the 2018 draft. He played the last six seasons with Miami, but has now found a new home in free agency. In 94 career regular-season games, Baker has posted 587 total tackles, 22.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, five interceptions, 21 passes defended and two defensive touchdowns.

The Seahawks held a free-agent visit with Baker on Thursday, and it clearly didn't take long for the two sides to come to an agreement.

Seattle have already lost linebackers Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks in free agency after the veterans signed with the Commanders and Dolphins, respectively. The Seahawks basically swapped Brooks for Baker, who will be a versatile piece for Macdonald's defense.
