Seahawks BREAKING: Seattle Makes Trade for Commanders QB Sam Howell

The Seattle Seahawks have acquired their new backup quarterback for 2024 -- and potentially a candidate for their future at signal-caller.

Per reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Washington Commanders are trading quarterback Sam Howell to the Seahawks.

Seattle will receive Howell, a fourth-round pick (No. 102) and a sixth-round pick (No. 179). Washington gets a third-round pick  (No. 78) and a fifth-round pick (No. 152).

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Leonard Williams (99) sacks Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell (14) during the second quarter at Lumen Field.

"Seattle has long liked QB Sam Howell. Now, with Drew Lock signing with the Giants, Howell can compete with Geno Smith for the Seahawks starting QB job," Schefter tweeted.

Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock moved on in free agency and signed with the New York Giants, opening up the QB2 spot behind Geno Smith. Howell will now presumably fill that role, and could be the answer for the Seahawks in the post-Geno era if he impresses coach Mike Macdonald and the new-look coaching staff.
