Could Seahawks Trade Up to Acquire Top QB Prospect?

The Seattle Seahawks hold the No. 5 pick in the NFL Draft and could use one of its two first-round draft picks to move up the board.

The Seattle Seahawks currently hold the No. 5 pick in the NFL Draft. Such is the franchise's draft capital, they are in a strong position.

After playing some quarterback mind games as the Seahawks posed for several selfies with all the top quarterback talents, a recent rumor has Seattle moving up in the draft.

Per Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network, the Seahawks could be interested in trading up in this year's draft to land one of the top quarterback talents - Anthony Richardson.

"Speculation from league insiders during Florida's pro day is the Seattle Seahawks could be the team that leapfrogs the Indianapolis Colts and trades up with the Arizona Cardinals to secure Richardson. Several reasons were given. The cost to move up won't be much for the Seahawks, who have another first-round pick — the 20th selection."

Exactly what the cost of trading up would be for the Seahawks is unknown, but thanks to the Russell Wilson trade, they have two first-round picks. Should what Pauline says come true, Seattle would hold the third overall pick in the draft and have its choice of talent.

With Geno Smith locked away for this year at least, Seattle could, in theory, trade up, select a quarterback (Richardson) and have him sit and learn the ropes next season before unleashing him in 2024.

Keep in mind that if it does cost the Seahawks a first-round pick (say No. 5), they will still have No. 20 in their back pocket, thus the easy ability to trade up.

While it is just speculation, it does give food for thought. If the Seahawks like one of the top quarterback talents, they have the power to move up the draft board and snap him up before another team does so.
