The Seattle Seahawks head to Ford Field on Sunday in Detroit to take on the Lions and give Seattle fans a reason for hope this season. They face a franchise that has had more downs than ups, but that has already given its fanbase reason for optimism in 2023.

Detroit's franchise woes are well-documented. After winning a third NFL championship in six seasons in 1957, the Lions have just one postseason victory, in 1992. Detroit also has no division titles since 1993. The Lions also boast the league's first-ever 0-16 season, culminating in the worst eight-year stretch by an NFL team since Franklin D. Roosevelt was in the White House.

But after winning eight of its last eight games in 2022, and a good draft and offseason, expectations for Detroit are high. Detroit beat the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs on their home field in Week 1.

Confidence was high in Seattle heading into the season after a revamped offensive line to protect new investment signal caller Geno Smith. But now that has taken a hit due to injuries to both starting tackles, Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas.

In the Week 1 loss to the Rams, Seattle's defense failed to put much pressure on quarterback Matthew Stafford. It will need to do much better in Detroit on Sunday to keep Jared Goff uncomfortable in the pocket. Goff has thrown 259 passes without an interception since getting picked off in Week 9 last season in a win over Green Bay.
