Raiders Sign Former Steelers TE Jesse James

The Las Vegas Raiders have added former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James.

PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James is back on an NFL roster, joining the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad, the team announced.

James, 29, was the Steelers' fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and played four seasons with Pittsburgh. He caught 120 balls for 1,189 yards and nine touchdowns from 2015 to 202018 before signing with the Detroit Lions, where he signed a four-year, $22.6 million deal.

James spent just two seasons with the Lions before being released after the 2020 season. He spent a year with the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns after his release. Since leaving Pittsburgh, he's played 58 games, catching 37 passes for 333 yards and three touchdowns.

Last season, James suffered a season-ending knee injury, but appears to be healthy and ready to earn his place back onto an active NFL roster. He'll have the back half of the season to do so in Las Vegas.
