Mike Tomlin's Friend Named Steelers Potential OC Candidate

The Pittsburgh Steelers could hire a longtime coach in the NFL.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will likely hold onto offensive coordinator Matt Canada for at least the remainder of the season, but if his time in the Steel City comes to an end in the spring, who would the team hire to replace him?

One candidate is former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, who was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Mike Tomlin was the defensive backs coach. The team won a Super Bowl together, and one inside believes reuniting could be an option.

During his weekly chat with Steelers fans, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac was asked about a potential replacement.

"Way too early to speculate. But a good one would be a Tomlin friend -- Jon Gruden," Dulac replied.

Gruden is currently away from the NFL after resigning from the Raiders, but he has had success in the league. While going younger and maybe finding the next Kyle Shannahan - or someone from his coaching tree - would be preferred by fans, the Super Bowl-winning coach could be a step in the right direction for Pittsburgh.
