Steelers Bring in OL John Michael Schmitz for Pre-Draft Visit

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking at a first-round lineman.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are doing some homework on Minnesota offensive lineman John Michael Schmitz, bringing him in for a top 30 pre-draft visit, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Schmitz did not meet with the Steelers at the NFL Combine, raising eyebrows on whether or not the team was looking at him with their first-round pick. Now, it's known they do have interest, adding him as another interior lineman to come in for a visit this offseason.

Schmitz follows Florida guard O'Cyrrus Torrence as the Steelers' pre-draft visitors. Ohio State tackle Dawand Jones is also scheduled for a visit.

Schmitz turned heads at the Senior Bowl with an impressive week of practice. During his time in Mobile, head coach Mike Tomlin wouldn't leave the interior linemen alone, and you have to imagine he got a good look at the Minnesota star.

Pittsburgh currently has Mason Cole as their center, which would bring questions to the starter in 2023 if the Steelers drafted Schmitz.
