Steelers Likely Done With Mason Rudolph
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers added their veteran competition at the quarterback position, and it wasn't Mason Rudolph. Despite plenty of talk this offseason about wanting Rudolph to compete with Kenny Pickett, the team went a different direction, signing former Denver Bronco Russell Wilson.
With the signing, likely comes the end of the Mason Rudolph era in Pittsburgh. Following his impressive run at the end of last season, he will most likely look for a new home where there is some competition for playing time available. According to The Atheltic's Mark Kaboly, it appears Rudolph's time with the Steelers has officially come to an end.
"Mason Rudolph’s people met with the Steelers today and we know how that went. Never say never but something crazy would have to happen for Rudolph to return to the Steelers," Kaboly wrote on X.
The Steelers typically carry three quarterbacks on their roster during the season, and are expected to do the same in 2024. They could target a late-round option, or look for a younger veteran in free agency to join Wilson and Pickett.
For Rudolph, he should have some market out there once free agency opens, but the former third-round pick has finally seen his run in Pittsburgh come to and end.
