Steelers Lose Kenny Pickett Long Term

The injury to Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is "not good," according to reports.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will likely lose quarterback Kenny Pickett for an extended period of time after suffering an ankle injury, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac.

Pickett originally suffered the injury in Week 12 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Head coach Mike Tomlin labeled it as "discomfort," but the quarterback didn't miss any practice time. He then aggravated the injury against the Arizona Cardinals, and it's "not good," according to Dulac.

Without Pickett, the Steelers will turn to Mitch Trubisky as their starting quarterback. The veteran is 2-3 as a starter with the Steelers, completing 63% of his passes for 1,408 yards and five touchdowns to seven interceptions prior to this past week.

He finished the Cardinals game with 117 yards and a touchdown.

Mason Rudolph will operate as the team's backup behind Trubisky. The Steelers only have the three quarterbacks on the roster and no other options on their practice squad.

Despite a poor loss to the Cardinals, the Steelers are 7-5 and in the playoff bracket for the AFC. With crucial games coming up, including two against AFC North opponents, they'll turn to Trubisky as their starter once again.
