Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth Suffers Chest Injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers offense loses their second star.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers offense took another blow in their season opener as tight end Pat Freiermuth suffered a chest injury and is questionable to return, the team announced.

The Steelers were already without leading wide receiver Diontae Johnson, who suffered a hamstring injury and was immediately ruled out of the game. Now, they'll move forward without Freiermuth as he deals with a chest issue.

Freiermuth's injury occurred during a pass in the endzone in the second quarter. San Francisco 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga made a big hit on the tight end, which left Freiermuth down after the play holding his chest. After assistance from the trainers, he returned to the game on the next play, but was later declared questionable to return.

Without Freiermuth, the Steelers will rely on rookie Darnell Washington and second-year pass-catching Connor Heyward.
