Steelers Release Two Wide Receivers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived/injured two notable wideouts.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived two wide receivers as they add an outside linebacker and a new receiver to their 90-man roster.

The team announced they have waived/injured wideouts Hakeem Butler and Cody White, while adding wideout Aron Cruickshank and linebacker Kuony Deng.

White has spent the last three seasons with the Steelers, mostly on their practice squad. He played in 16 games for Pittsburgh, recording six receptions for 35 yards and contributing on special teams.

Butler was a fan favorite coming into the summer after an impressive XFL season. He was listed as the team's backup on their initial depth chart, but was off-and-on during training camp. He was injured the day before the second preseason game.

With both players being waived/injured, the Steelers could keep them on their Injured Reserve list during the season. If they clear waivers, they'll revert to IR, where the Steelers could agree to an injury settlement to release them. If they don't, they'll remain on IR throughout the season.
