Steelers Sign Former Bears LB

The Pittsburgh Steelers add to their outside linebacker room.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have added another player to their 90-man roster, signing former Chicago Bears and California linebacker Kuony Deng.

Deng, 25, is an undrafted free agent out of the 2022 NFL Draft class. He spent time with the Bears this summer, playing in their first preseason game but not recording a statistic. He did not play on a roster or practice squad in 2021.

Deng was active for three years at Cal, playing 19 games and recording 156 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He played just two games his senior season before suffering a season-ending injury.

The Steelers are making late moves to test out healthy players with their final few days of practice. With injuries on both sides of the ball, they'll work with Deng and newly-signed Rutgers receiver Aron Cruickshank before trimming their roster to 53.

He'll compete with David Perales and Toby Ndukwe at the end of the 90-man roster, and hope to impress enough for a practice squad spot.
