Steelers Sign Former Browns Safety
PITTSBURGH -- Facing some heavy attrition in their defensive backfield, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made a move to add a safety to their practice squad.
Nate Meadors, a former undrafted defensive back out of UCLA, has been added to the Steelers practice squad this week ahead of a Week 17 date with the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced.
After the Vikings added him as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft, Meadors has spent time with the New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns. The Browns were the last NFL team to sign Meadors, who also played for the St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL.
The 5'11, 194-pound safety has appeared in three games during his NFL career and made two tackles during that span. Meadors hasn't played in an NFL game since 2020 and has just 48 career snaps under his belt, 37 of which came on special teams.
The Steelers are already down Damontae Kazee, who was suspended three games by the NFL for an illegal hit against the Colts in Week 15. Keanu Neal is injured and Trenton Thompson and Minkah Fitzpatrick, dealing with injuries of their own, are questionable for the road trip to Seattle this week.
The move could allow Harris to be more efficient as a runner, while utilizing Warren's all-around skills as a runner, receiver and blocker.
