Steelers Add Two Former Starters to Camp Roster

The Pittsburgh Steelers are bulking up their inside linebacker room.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are working out two inside linebackers, looking to add veteran experience to the mix before they wrap up minicamp.

The team has brought in Jermaine Carter Jr. and Nick Kwiatkoski for tryouts, working with the team for the final three days of minicamp before they take off for Latrobe.

Kwiatkoski, a former fourth-round pick for the Chicago Bears, last played for the Atlanta Falcons, appearing as a special teamer in 12 games. He comes to the Steelers with 89 games, including 34 starts under his belt.

His best season came with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020 when he accumulated 81 tackles, four pass breakups, three tackles for loss, two QB hits, one forced fumble, and an interception.

Carter is a former fifth-round pick who's spent time with the Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns. He's accumulated 72 games, including 31 starts in his NFL career, carrying 194 tackles with him into the 2023 season.

If the Steelers sign one of their two tryouts, they'll have six inside linebackers heading into training camp. They currently have 90 players on the roster, meaning they'd release someone with the move.
