Steelers Work Out Two Players
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers brought in two tight ends for tryouts as they look to fill their offseason roster prior to free agency and the NFL Draft. According to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, the team had Dakota Allen and Parker Hesse in for workouts this week.
The Steelers currently have four tight ends on their roster in Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, Connor Heyward and Rodney Williams. Williams was signed to the active roster during the season and was never waived after becoming a prominent part of the special teams unit.
Hesse has a connection to the Steelers, spending his entire career under new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. He started his career as an undrafted rookie with the Tennessee Titans in 2019, where he spent his first two seasons on the practice squad.
He then signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, where he appeared in 28 games during that time, including eight starts and catching 14 passes.
He also has experience as a fullback, a position the Steelers did not carry on their roster last season. However, with Smith becoming the OC, Pittsburgh could look to add a fullback to their backfield in 2024.
Allen is an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Kentucky. After recovering from an ACL injury in 2022, he tried out for the Falcons in 2023 but never made the roster.
The Steelers have signed 23 players to future/reserve contract. All Steelers will provide updates if Allen and Hesse are added to that list.
