Stephen A. Smith Calls Out Steelers HC Mike Tomlin
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers offense continued to struggle in their Week 1 blowout to the San Francisco 49ers. At this point, the trend of rough offensive performances by a group led by Matt Canada has gone on for 36 games, and one ESPN analyst is calling for a change at offensive coordinator.
During an episode of First Take, Stephen A. Smith asked why the Steelers haven't made a change to their OC, and believes they should make a call to a familiar face if Canada can't turn it around.
"Todd Haley’s on NFL radio…damn it, go back and get him before we have to deal with Matt Canada if he can’t change things around," Smith said. "I’m a Steelers fan. I’m getting sick and tired of that damn offensive coordinator. Mike Tomlin, do something about it."
Smith even went on to call out head coach Mike Tomlin for ignoring the lingering problems with the Steelers play-caller.
"Mike Tomlin, y’all don’t hesitate to make changes with players when they don’t produce. But you want to hold onto offensive coordinators," Smith said.
In 27 of Canada's 36 games as offensive coordinator, the Steelers offense has failed to reach 20 points. The group has also never accumulated more than 400 yards in a game.
The Steelers don't seem to be thinking about a change at OC, as they've shut down any rumors about the situation for the last two years.
