Nelson was a limited participant all week in practice, but didn't appear ready before the team left on Saturday. His initial status was Questionable, but the Steelers downgraded that status to Out.

Nelson has started all five games for the Steelers, recording 21 tackles and 2 pass deflections. Headed into Los Angeles, Pittsburgh was hoping to have their offseason signing on the field.

The Steelers will now rely on Artie Burns at cornerback. Burns hasn't started a game this season, and has seen a limited role since being benched in 2018.

Burns has only seen two defensive snaps this season, and will now face off against Keenan Allen and Mike Williams in his first start since Week 14 against the New England Patriots.

Last season, the Chargers racked up 286 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air.

The Steelers defense leads the league in turnovers, intercepting 6 passes since Week 2. With the addition of Minkah Fitzpatrick and Devin Bush, they appear to be turning the corner towards one of the league's best.
