Steelers Release Second-Year RB

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not giving a second year to a promising running back.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are moving on from second-year running back Alfonzo Graham, announcing his release as they look to finish up their roster moves ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Graham signed with the team as an undrafted rookie out of Morgan State. In the midst of an impressive debut at training camp, he torn his labrum in his shoulder, ending his 2023 season. He has now been waived prior to year two with the team.

Graham had an opportunity to make the 53-man roster after looking good in OTAs and mini camp. He opened training camp on the same leg, making a case for surpassing veteran Anthony McFarland for the final roster spot. It was thought that the Steelers would have some interest in him this season, but that has seemingly passed.

In 29 college games, Graham rushed for 1,656 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns while also averaging 22.3 yards per kick return.

The addition of Cordarrelle Patterson likely ends the Steelers backfield additions this offseason, outside of some practice squad options.
