'Underrated': DeAndre Hopkins Scouting Report On Houston Texans QB Davis Mills

Former Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has had his say on Houston's second-year quarterback Davis Mills

If anyone knows a thing or two about the difference between good and bad quarterbacks, it's former Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

The now Arizona Cardinal has had the fortune, and perhaps misfortune, to play with a wide range of quarterbacks from Deshaun Watson and Kyler Murray, to T.J. Yates and Brock Osweiler.

And while Texans fans never got the chance to see the three-time All-Pro play with today's signal-caller in Houston, Davis Mills, Hopkins has clearly been impressed by the sophomore.

The five-time Pro Bowler called Mills "underrated," commenting on a post about him on NFL On Prime ahead of Houston's preseason closing game against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday

The post highlighted the fact that in 2021, among rookies Mills ranked second in touchdowns (16), third in passing yards (2,664), and second in completion percentage (66.8).

What it fails to mention is that Mills also had the most 300+ passing yard games among rookies, and led the NFL in passer rating over 20 yards.

All this despite playing in an offense with the league's least productive run game, a mismatched offensive line, and few consistent weapons outside of Brandin Cooks.

But while the city of Houston has been feeling the Milla-mania this summer, this hype hasn't quite caught on elsewhere where regarding sophomore quarterbacks, the focus has been on the likes of Mac Jones of the New England Patriots, Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Trey Lance of the San Francisco 49ers.

Perhaps if Mills can get Houston's starting offense rolling on Thursday night, the focus may shift from the hyped-up Lance to the "underrated" Texan.
