What's The Right Move For Texans At No. 2?
The NFL Draft is just days away and the Houston Texans are on the clock (kind of). With the second overall pick in Thursday's 2023 NFL Draft from Kansas City, Missouri, there are options. Options that can change the trajectory of a franchise.
When the correct decision is made this high up in the draft, it can kickstart a franchise for years of success. When the wrong player is chosen, however, it can be disastrous for a team for years to come.
Houston needs a franchise quarterback. Period. And there are options. Depending on who Carolina takes at No. 1 - and most indications are that they will take Alabama's Bryce Young - the Texans will have Ohio State's C.J. Stroud, Kentucky's Will Levis, or Florida's Anthony Richardson to choose from.
And now, it appears Richardson, who had fallen in some mock drafts recently, is now being discussed as a top 5 pick.
While the former Florida signal caller's name is being mentioned in the top 5 picks, there's not a specific team associated with him. Which is unusual.
If the Panthers take Young, Houston could still go defense, as some indications are they really like Texas Tech's Tyree Wilson with that pick. If so, they'd have to find a quarterback at No. 12 or in the later rounds.
The other option is to roll with Davis Mills for another season without knowing what next year's draft will look like with regard to quarterbacks.
If they're truly sold on Wilson or another defensive player at No. 2, the best-case scenario for the Texans would be if Levis or Anderson falls to No. 12, but that's not likely.
But if Houston is serious about winning, it's time to find their franchise quarterback now. Just please pick the right one. Who's the right one? I have no idea...
