The Houston Texans could be looking to add another weapon for C.J. Stroud in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The 2024 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, meaning that mock draft season is in full swing.

Who do the Houston Texans select when on the clock during the first two days in Detriot? Per Pro Football Focus' latest two-round mock draft, Houston bolsters both sides of the ball.

With their first pick, the Texans are projected to secure Illinois interior defensive lineman Jer’Zhan Newton at No. 23, adding some much-needed talent in the trenches.

At 6-2, 280 pounds, Newton showcased his prowess with 7.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss during the 2023 season. Throughout his collegiate career, he amassed a total of 18.0 sacks and 27.5 tackles for loss, demonstrating versatility across the defensive line.

With his ability to excel in various positions on defense, Newton presents an enticing prospect for DeMeco Ryans’ defensive scheme. This strategic move suggests a deliberate decision by the Texans to bolster their defensive playmaking capabilities while potentially addressing depth concerns along the interior defensive line.

In the second round, PFF has Houston adding a playmaker on the outside for star quarterback C.J. Stroud with Texas receiver Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 59.

Mitchell boasts the prototypical physique of an NFL pass-catching threat. The 6-4 pass-catcher's on-field performance throughout the season underscores his potential impact, evidenced by an impressive stat line of 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Mitchell's ability to step up in pivotal matchups adds further allure to his draft profile. Notably, he showcased his prowess with a standout performance in the Big 12 championship game, where he hauled in six receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown, demonstrating his knack for delivering in high-pressure situations.

Additionally, Mitchell made significant contributions in the College Football Playoff semifinal, recording four catches for 32 yards and a touchdown.

Before heading to Austin, Mitchell did much of the same with the Georgia Bulldogs, catching a touchdown in four consecutive playoff matchups over two seasons with winning to national titles.

As the 2024 draft approaches, speculation abounds regarding Houston's selections with their first two picks. While uncertainties linger, Mitchell emerges as a compelling prospect poised to bolster the Texans' receiving arsenal.
