'Rest In Peace, Brother': J.J. Watt Mourns Texans Teammate Ryan Mallett

Following the death of Ryan Mallett, J.J. Watt took a moment to mourn and show respect to his former Houston Texans teammate.

HOUSTON — Former Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett passed away Tuesday after drowning in Florida. He was 35 years old.

Former teammates and colleagues have taken to social media to express their sorrow following Mallett's unexpected death. Texans' legend J.J. Watt mourned Mallett on Twitter by stating, "Gone way too soon. Rest in Peace brother."

Mallett and Watt spent two seasons together as teammates with the Texans. The QB played in nine games for Houston and recorded 1,170 yards and five touchdowns while completing 53 percent of his passes.

Mallett and Watt connected on a two-yard touchdown pass during the Texans' Week 11 victory against the Cleveland Browns in 2014. Houston went 2-4 with Mallett as a starter.

He was traded to the Texans in 2014 for a sixth-round pick from the New England Patriots, where he began his career as a third-round selection in 2011. Following a two-year stint in Houston, Mallett finished his career with the Baltimore Ravens from 2015 to 2017.

He entered the draft as one of the most prominent quarterbacks in his class after an impressive college career at the University of Arkansas.

The Arkansas Razorbacks' 10-3 record in 2010 marked Mallett's best college season. He threw for 3,869 yards and 32 touchdowns with a 64.7 completion percentage. Mallett earned second-team All-SEC honors for a second straight year.

After his NFL career, Mallett served as the coach of White Hall High School in White Hall, Arkansas.

“We lost a great man,” said Tom Brady, Mallett’s teammate in New England.
