Nick Caserio Replacement? 49ers Adam Peters 'Targeted' as Texans Backup Plan

With rumors floating around that general manager Nick Caserio could be on his way out, Adam Peters has emerged as a potential candidate to take the helm as the Houston Texans' next general manager.

HOUSTON — The future of Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio appears to be bleak. There is a strong belief that Caserio will depart from the Texans following the 2023 NFL Draft.

Caserio's potential departure would leave the Texans without a general manager. But according to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Texans could replace Caserio with Adam Peters, the assistant general manager for the San Francisco 49ers.

The Texans hired DeMeco Ryans in February to take the helm as the sixth coach in franchise history. Ryans came to the Texans after a successful stint as the 49ers' defensive coordinator. And since his hiring, Houston has added several personnel associates from San Francisco, which includes new offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.

If Caserio departs from Houston, the consensus believes a return to the New England Patriots would be his next stop. Caserio spent 20 years with the Patriots before joining the Texans in January 2021.

Due to unforeseen circumstances with former star quarterback Deshaun Watson, the Texans have won seven games in Caserio's first two seasons in Houston. The Texans' lackluster performances also led to a pair of coaching hires in David Culley (2021) and Lovie Smith (2022).

Caserio's abrupt exit from the Texans would be due to "organizational changes."

"It’s been awesome working with Nick," Ryans said. "We’ve hit the ground running and Nick is awesome to work with. Nick is a very knowledgeable guy and I’m happy to be a part of a team that has a GM in place who has so much experience.

"I’m excited to work with Nick. It’s been a very smooth transition, a smooth process. Communication has been awesome working with Nick. We see the game the same way, which is great. We see the game the same way and see players the same."
