Texans Still Have 'A Lot To Get Done' After Fast Free Agency Start

Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio discusses offseason plans leading up to April's NFL Draft.

With the 2023 NFL Draft looming, and free agency in full swing, the Houston Texans are officially in rebuild mode.

And during a meeting with the media on Tuesday, general manager Nick Caserio took revealed what the Texans' game plan would be moving forward over the next few weeks.

"We'll probably be free-agent centric," Caserio told HoustonTexans.com. "We'll start to bring players in the building for 30-man visits. Because we're in Houston, we probably have more local players that qualify that won't count against the 30.

Thus far, that is exactly what the Texans have been, with Houston being aggressive in bringing in 'DeMeco Ryans-type' players on defense, including safety Jimmie Ward, and defensive lineman Hassan Ridgeway.

That said, Caserio is also aware that there is still a long road ahead.

"The coaches will be off the end of the month there, a little bit of a reprieve, and then the second week in April, Phase One of the offseason program," Caserio said. "So that's about the next four to five weeks. There's a lot to get done in that time period."

It's a tall order to take a team from the NFL cellar to NFL contender.

Tall, but not impossible.

And one of the key factors in that kind of rebuild is patience - something that Caserio and the Texans have in abundance.

"Certainly you're not going to accomplish everything overnight," Caserio said. But everybody's excited about where we are, and where we're headed and just keep moving forward. That's the most important thing."
