Bobby Slowik vs. Kliff Kingsbury? Texans Hire Coach to DeMeco Ryans Staff

The Houston Texans have hired Bobby Slowik as their new offensive coordinator under coach DeMeco Ryans.

HOUSTON — Coach DeMeco Ryans' staff with the Houston Texans is continuing to take shape.

The Texans have hired San Francisco 49ers passing-game coordinator Bobby Slowik as the team's new offensive coordinator. A source had previously told TexansDaily.com that Ryans was hoping to bring Slowik to Houston in this capacity, the two having worked together in San Francisco.

The source also described Slowik as a "bright young coach who would be good for the Texans'' and credited Slowik in part for the success the Niners experienced under rookie quarterback Brock Purdy.

Slowik, who served one season as the 49ers' passing game coordinator, helped San Francisco put together one of the best offensive teams in the league.

The 49ers averaged 226.8 passing yards while scoring 26.5 points during the 2022 campaign. In the seven games Purdy started before losing in the NFC Championship game to the Philadelphia Eagles, he threw for an average of 234.8 yards, 14 touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Slowik joined the 49ers as the team's defensive quality control coach in 2017. The Niners then elevated Slowik to offensive assistant in 2019. Two years later, he took the helm as San Francisco's offensive pass game specialist before the 2022 season.

Slowik's hiring comes on the heels of Ryans interviewing Kliff Kingsbury for the top offensive job and days after the Texans hired Matt Burke as defensive coordinator.
