Texans' J.J. Watt Not Interested in Becoming NFL Coach or GM

Houston Texans legend J.J. Watt opens up to Pat McAfee about future plans.

The renowned seven-hour Sunday show NFL RedZone recently caught the eye of legendary former Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, who retired from football at the end of last season.

Watt admitted that he hasn't been able to master the "serious skill" of watching every NFL game at once like the rest of the "couch warriors" just yet, but said on The Pat McAfee Show that he has no intentions on going back to the league to coach football either.

"I love working with players, talking ball and helping them improve, but (I can't do) the hours and time commitment," Watt said on Wednesday. "The same thing goes for being in a fro office or GM."

The 34-year-old explained how lucky and fortunate he was to make "a whole lot of money to chase a ball around" and that he's now able to make his own decisions going forward. That being said, he doesn't want a full-time job anytime soon, as there's a "large human being" that happily takes up his time.

"The thing I want to pick and choose the most is my family...my 10-month-old son, Koa," Watt said. "When Koa starts running around, talking and maybe driving me crazy, my thoughts on (a full-time job) may change. But for right now, I want to spend time with him and I'm loving every second of it."

The only NFL-related job that the three-time Defensive Player of the Year currently has (besides coming onto The Pat McAfee Show every Wednesday) is with CBS Sports as an analyst. Watt detailed the freedom that he's given there as well.

"I'm very fortunate that this fall, CBS is letting me work on 6-8 weekends that I get to choose."

"The Milkman" has one other NFL-related position coming up, but he'll stay there forever.

Watt will be inducted into the Texans' Ring of Honor during Houston's Week 4 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which features his brother, 2021 Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt.
