Mark Ingram Scouts the Texans: A ‘Baller’ & A ‘Huge Leap’

Former Houston Texans running back Mark Ingram believes Dameon Pierce and the team will "take a huge leap."

Former Houston Texans running back Mark Ingram's stint with the team wasn't very long (seven games), but he still appreciates the organization.

Ingram told KPRC2's Chancellor Johnson that he's excited about the Texans this season, starting with running back Dameon Pierce.

"Man, he's a baller," Ingram said. "He has vision, he's violent with his cuts, runs physical, he's able to pick up pass protection and he's got good hands. If he didn't have the injuries (last season), he would've been well over 1,000 yards, so I'm looking forward to him taking a huge leap in his second year. I think he's one of the best backs in the league."

Ingram won the Heisman Trophy at Alabama in 2009 and still takes pride in the university's culture on Saturdays. The 33-year-old will join Fox Sports' "Big Noon Kickoff" to preview college football games every Saturday.

Several members of the Texans share the Alabama bond with Ingram and he believes that culture will run through them on Sundays.

"Y'all got that Roll Tide lineage over here," Ingram said. "We're about to turn some stuff around. Coach DeMeco (Ryans), (linebacker) Christian (Harris), (receiver John) Metchie, (edge rusher) Will (Anderson Jr. and linebacker Henry To'oTo'o) are some real ballers from the Crimson Tide. They play to a standard—excellence—and they're great pickups for the Texans organization."

The former New Orleans Saints running back played a couple of times against Ryans when he was a linebacker on the Texans. Ingram said that Ryans' performance back then should reflect his coaching ability now.

"(Ryans was) real smart, physical and you knew that he was always going to be in position," Ingram said. "Just big respect to him from Roll Tide nation, a great playing career and now doing things as a coach."
