Texans Signing 49ers DT Hassan Ridgeway To One-Year Deal
HOUSTON — The Houston Texans added much-needed depth to their defensive line unit Monday afternoon.
On the first day of free agency, the Texans signed veteran defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway, according to reports.
Ridgeway is joining the Texans after a one-year stint with the San Francisco 49ers. He appeared in 12 out of a possible 17 games and recorded 28 tackles, four quarterback hits and a sack.
He finished the 2022 campaign with a pass rush grade of 62.0, according to Pro Football Focus.
Ridgeway will sign a one-year deal worth $4 million with $3 million guaranteed. His addition also reunites him with former Niners' defensive coordinator and now Texans' coach DeMeco Ryans.
Ridgeway began his career as a fourth-round pick (No. 111) of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Indianapolis Colts drafted Ridgeway out of Texas. He has Since recorded 103 tackles and 10.5 sacks as a member of the 49ers, Colts and Philadelphia Eagles.
"This defense and this scheme starts up front," defensive coordinator Matt Burke said. "The more you can rush the passer with four and attack those guys and get after it, that takes the pressure off of the back end with some of those coverage elements you are talking about.”
