Texans Out on Patrick Queen After Signing Azeez Al-Shaair?

The Houston Texans have added veteran linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, which could signal the end of their pursuit of Patrick Queen.

The Houston Texans have missed out on several big-name free agents Monday amid the first day of free agency. However, there is one free agent the Texans have their eyes on. According to DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN, the Texans are "in the mix" for linebacker Patrick Queen.

However, he added that there are concerns about whether or not they can come up with the money. As a member of the Baltimore Ravens, Queen helped the franchise finish the 2023 season with the league's top-rated defense. He recorded a career-best 133 tackles, six quarterback hits, six pass deflections, and 3.5 sacks.

Queen is in line for the first significant payday of his career. His current market value is set for a five-year, $92.6 million contract according to Spotrac.com.

Queen and third-year cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. played together for one season as a member of the 2019 LSU Tigers.

Together, Queen and Stingley helped the Tigers become one of the greatest teams in college football history during their national championship run. The Ravens selected Queen in the first round (no. 28 overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Unfortunately, the signing of Queens may have taken a hit following the acquisition of Azeez Al-Shaair. The veteran linebacker agreed to a three-year, $34.0 million deal to join the Texans.

Since the start of free agency, the Texans have allowed Jonathan Greenard and Blake Cashman to sign with the Baltimore Ravens. Houston also missed out on a chance to land Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, and Christian Wilkins.
