Texans Projected to Land Future Hall of Fame Receiver in NFL Free Agency

The Houston Texans have been winning this offseason and that trend could continue by signing receiver Mike Evans.

It sure feels good to be a fan of the Houston Texans these days after two offensive coaches pursued by others opted to stay with the team and build on the success they experienced this season.

With offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson returning to the Texans, quarterback C.J. Stroud is going to have a solid amount of consistency going from year one to two.

What could make his second season even better? How about Houston signing a future Hall of Fame receiver?

"No doubt the Bucs would like the future Hall of Famer back, especially if Baker Mayfield also returns," CBS Sports says of Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans. "But Texas is home for the star No. 1, and old friend Tom Brady would likely put a good word in for C.J. Stroud in Houston, where the AFC South's up-and-coming contenders are primed to spend big for a deeper playoff push."

Evans played his college football with Texas A&M racking up 2,499 yards and 17 touchdowns in two seasons before being drafted in the first round by the Buccaneers in 2014. He played high school football for Ball High School in Galveston, Texas before that.

The Texans are projected to have nearly $66 million in salary cap space and hold the No. 23 pick in the NFL Draft which is higher than the No. 27 overall selection they traded to the Arizona Cardinals last year.

That trade landed Houston defensive end Will Anderson Jr. who provided young leadership on the defense while Stroud shined on offense.

The youth movement is real, but the right veteran can really turn things up a notch and if the Buccaneers somehow let Evans out the door to explore other options it's hard to imagine the Texans wouldn't want him and his 10 straight seasons of 1,000+ receiving yards on their roster.

Spotrac.com projects Evans to earn $23.8 million per year on a four-year deal this offseason.
