QB Deshaun Watson Reveals Why He Prefers Browns Offense Over Texans

Despite not playing a full season under Kevin Stefanski, Deshaun Watson contrasts the Browns' offense when compared to the Houston Texans.

HOUSTON — Deshaun Watson has not played a full 17-game season with the Cleveland Browns, but the Pro Bowl quarterback has already seen a difference from his time playing with the Houston Texans.

Watson was a guest on "The Q with Quincy Avery" podcast on Saturday. And during his appearance, Watson spoke on the comparison of playing under coach Kevin Stefanski in Cleveland versus Bill O'Brien with the Texans.

"In the previous offense, the quarterback did everything," Watson said. "I called the run points, I called the protections. I'm flipping the protection sliding here, I'm calling hots, everything.

"In this system, it's basically built in, so when you come up the line of scrimmage, you're not really doing that. You can see it, but pretty much the center is directing everything, you just gotta make sure you see the right coverage — it's more simple in a sense."

Watson played four seasons for the Texans before sitting out the entire 2021 campaign. Houston drafted Watson with the No. 12 pick in 2017. In 54 career games played under O'Brien, Watson threw for 14,539 yards and 104 touchdowns while completing 67.8 percent of his pass attempts.

Following his trade request from the Texans in January 2021, off-field legal issues forced Watson to wait 15 months before Houston could trade him to the Browns.

Watson served an 11-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. He made his Browns debut in a win over the Texans on Dec. 4 at NRG Stadium.

Watson finished the 2022 campaign, his first season under Stefanski, completing 58.2 percent of his passes for 1,102 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions.
