Texans Restructure, Retain S Eric Murray
For the second consecutive season, Eric Murray has agreed to restructure his contract with the Houston Texans.
Last offseason, Murray restructured his contract and received a $1.465 million signing bonus that helped create almost $800,000 in cap space for the team. He also signed a two-year, $10 million deal at that time.
This time around, Murray can make up to $4 million this year according to a league source.
Murray's cap value for Houston is now $3.887 million, down from $5.357 million. He received a $650,000 signing bonus, has $1.476 million guaranteed, a $1.6 million base salary, down from $3.75 million, up to $250,000 in per game ($14,705 rate) active roster bonuses, and another $1.5 million available in playtime incentives.
All of this to help the Texans sign other players and stay under the salary cap.
Houston is reportedly signing former San Francisco 49ers safety Jimmy Ward to a two-year, $14.5 million deal per sources, and has already retained safety M.J. Stewart on a new two-year, $7.5 million deal.
Originally drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round (106 overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft, Murray spent his first three seasons with the Chiefs before spending one year in Cleveland in 2019.
Murray originally signed a three-year, $20.25 million deal with the Texans in April of 2020.
